Harrisburg University, weasels.

You might recall how I've called foul on HU in the past for lying about...well pretty much everything. I recently called out the university for lying about graduate and undergraduate programs. Eric Darr, HU's Provost and soon to be Interim President claimed that "Harrisburg University offers 24 undergraduate and 35 graduate programs." While HU press releases claimed "Harrisburg University offers 24 undergraduate and 35 graduate programs." Of course, both claims are patently false. HU only has eight programs. HU stopped making the false claims for awhile, most likely due to complaints to the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Ahh, but they are back at it again, trying to deceive the public into thinking they have more to offer than they really do. In a press release dated June 21, 2012, HU claims it "offers 24 undergraduate and 35 graduate program options". As if the lie is somehow acceptable if they stick the word "options" on the end of it.

This is exactly the kind of deceptive advertising that you would expect from a predatory institution.

  1. Steve and Susan - don't you have anything better to do? Brace yourself for the multiple lawsuits you are about to be served. Your drivel and misinformation will cost more than an out of work professor and lousy IT salary can support.

  2. Can't wait to chat with Greg Rich about your spare time hobbies. I am sure radio shack in hazelton will treat you well.

  3. 1) I have no idea who Greg Rich is so I image he really isn't interested in my hobbies. But If he is interested, tell him my hobbies include firearms, martial arts, motorcycle clubs, volunteering with the Red Cross and cooking. Oh and I like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain too.

    2) Radio Shack? Why would they not treat me well? Are you suggesting I work there? Or that they they would give me job? Are you knocking the people that work there? Anybody that tries to earn an honest living is fine by me.

    3) I have a lawyer thanks. He says fun words like "First Amendment."

    4) If you feel there is misinformation, just drop me a note with specifics and I'll remove the offending material. I've been wrong before and no doubt will be again. To the best of my knowledge everything on this blog is true.

  4. Ummmm.... Hello.... All the information that Steve and Susan have posted is accurate (all of it public information). Ok, you might say they took some creative license with Eric's girlfriend (a certain Director of Student Services) but anyone on the staff will tell you it's true. Steve and Susan have not committed slander or done anything illegal. They didn't start this - others did. All they are doing is getting people to think, to react, to look for themselves. Have you ever met Susan? She genuinely cares about her students and has a passion for teaching. HU could have been an excellent school. Granted, Steve and Susan have made numerous comments about Mel and Eric. Have they lied with any of their statements? No. Do some digging yourself instead of just saying the Boogey Man is gonna get them. If anything, refer the attorneys to Mel, Eric and the Board when an audit ensues for misappropriation of Federal funds. You thought the incinerator fiasco was bad? This is like the next chapter. I sickens me to see how much money is truly wasted. You think I'm just making this up? Dig for yourself. Go to the building and look around. Go up to the labs - they really are high school quality. The computer lab was outdated the day they put it in. Anyway, some people will remain apathetic towards finding the truth while continuing to demean those who pursue justice for the students. Thank you Steve and Susan for doing our "homework" - there are many that agree with you and support you in your quest to find the truth.

  5. Thank you for your support :) Let me just clarify -- I'm Steve Barrows and I'm 100% responsible for the blog. I wrote every single word.

I never said the Director of Student Services was Darr's girlfriend - I only mentioned nepotism as a possible explanation as to why the University would hire someone for such an important position for which she seems wholly unqualified w/o even a job search.

And I'll say it again: To the best of knowledge, every single word I've written is true. If anyone feels I've made a material error, they can reach me at I will remove the information or make a correction.

  6. "Steve and Susan - don't you have anything better to do? Brace yourself for the multiple lawsuits you are about to be served. Your drivel and misinformation will cost more than an out of work professor and lousy IT salary can support."

What so you don't have an intelligent comment? The best you can do is threaten lawsuits? Pathetic! I guarantee if HU sues that we will rally around Steve and Sue and HU will get a double dose of bad press at a very minimum. People have a strong sense there is some major corruption surrounding HU, the truth is coming out.
